Public Works manages the city’s infrastructure
From sweeping Harvey’s streets to turning on water for new residents, the Public Works Department is an integral part of our community, as well as the surrounding suburban areas. Harvey’s water pumping station, for example, serves as the main hub to disperse water received from Chicago to many southern Chicago suburbs.
The Department of Public Works is responsible for a broad spectrum of services including, but not limited to the following:
- Street repair(s)
- Snow removal
- Beautification
- Lot maintenance of the city’s vacant/abandoned properties
- Traffic sign maintenance
- City lighting
- Other Public Improvement Projects
The department functions as overseer of services, such as the following:
- Tree-cutting/trimming and care
- Street sweeping
- Brush and branch pick-up
- Sewer maintenance
- Repair and maintenance of water mains and infrastructure.
Other tasks include fleet, equipment and grounds maintenance for all City of Harvey vehicles and buildings.
